Class Descriptions

Authentic Yoga,
Level I & II:
Students will gain a basic understanding of the principles of Iyengar Yoga with a primary focus on the standing poses as they are the foundation for all other poses.  Other asanas (poses), such as seated postures, forward bends, twists, backward extensions, abdominal contractions and inversions will be introduced and explored on a very introductory basis.  Props will be used to accommodate the students’ bodies so the poses can be understood on a deeper level.  In addition, students will, at times, explore the variety of ways poses can be combined and linked together to create a flowing sequence or “vinyasa.”
Authentic Yoga,
Level II:
Students will continue to practice the standing asanas with less use of props and continue to explore the seated postures, forward bends, twists, backward extensions, abdominal contractions and inversions systematically and with great detail.  Asanas at this level will be held longer and will be approached at a more intermediate level.  Flowing sequences at this level will be more challenging and repetitive offering students an opportunity to practice Dharana – the concentration of complete attention.
Restorative Yoga: Relax and restore!  This gentle class is designed to rest the organic body so that students (beginner to advanced) can get the passive extension meant for recuperation.  Props are used to fully support the body for extended periods of time giving the time necessary for restoration to occur.
Anusara Inspired:

Shauna's yoga classes are opened to all levels from beginners to experienced. While challenging, the balanced execution of yoga postures will take place with emphasis given to principles of alignement, a celebration of the heart, and a light-hearted, inspiring spirit. Students will be guided toward discovering their potential while expressing proper biomechanics and heart-centered intention.

Gentle Yoga :

A well-rounded yoga class suitable for the beginner and the seasoned yogi alike, Gentle Yoga lets you actively begin where you are. The class gently builds and expands your knowledge of yoga with focus on alignment and balance in asanas from fundamental standing postures to seated poses, forward bends, backbends, inversions, and twists. Your yoga experience is safe and affective through the use of props, such as blocks, chairs, and straps to help you reach your optimal position within each asana. Work with breath during asana helps you connect with your mind-body wholeness. Gentle Yoga helps you embrace yoga as a lifestyle and healing art, empowering you to deepen your yoga experience and engage in a personal practice. This class is appropriate for any age and any level…just come and “experience the value of yoga!!!”

Morning Practice: This class will prepare you for your day in a gentle, yet energetic way. We may begin with traditional Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and move into a series of creative vinyasas (flowing sequences) designed to warm, awaken, energize and strengthen the body. On other days we may hold each pose a little longer. In each class, the principles of alignment will be enforced and the variety of poses and the special sequencing of poses will provide you with just the “quick fix” you need for the rest of your day!
Flow Yoga: This is an energetic and nurturing class consisting of asanas linking movement with breath.  While improving strength, flexibility and circulation, the awareness and concentration brought to these poses will help calm the mind.  Expect some sun salutations and a few more spine-decompressing downward-facing dogs!!
